Black Night Event For Black Watches In Copenhagen

March 8th, 2010 by Kevin No comments »

Recently, there was a Danish horological event held in central Copenhagen, to prove that black watches are not just a fad. It was called Black Night event.

nEO_IMG_Black_watchesevent_1.jpg

Danish retailer Reeslev celebrated the dark watches at an elegant Black Night event in central Copenhagen

Hublot’s Nicolas Courcoux, one of the organizers of the event, introduced his brand in front of 60 guests, all dressed in the same color as the watches found in the showcases: black. He said, “We invented the all-black watch. Obviously, this is just for those black horological creations.” In the event, Hublot served the function of pioneer as it introduced a pitch-black watch four years ago: the Big Bang All Black. It seems those ingenious timepieces look wonderful only in the all-black theme.

The Corum Black Hull is an imposing all-black watch

Following the dark trend is also many other dramatic, dark beauties by Chopard , Graham , Ulysse Nardin , Porsche Design, Raymond Weil , and Corum . Like Hublot, the other brands also employ area managers to proudly present their black swans.

Swiss manufacturer Raymond Weil joined the black party in Copenhagen

Winning the favor of both male and female lovers of fine Swiss horology, those black timepiece performed perfect on the wrists of the champagne-nipping guests. Those masculine wrists mostly chose oversized chunky black sports watches from Graham, Hublot and Corum, while the much more slender wrists of their wives showed off elegant and decorative timepieces by Hublot and Chopard. Some of those watches apply various PVD or DLC treatment, as well as ceramic material, to get the glossy black color. So even though made of titanium, and others steel, the watches can be presented in all-black.

Danish retailer Reeslev was initiator of this event. Torben Hansen, Reeslev’s owner and creative director, said, “I think the black watches are popular due to the fact that most people have owned steel and gold watches. They want something new. Something less flashy. Also, a black watch seems to go well with any clothes you wear.”

“By doing these events I get better and closer relationships with my clients,” Hansen added. “Most people do not visit a watch shop ten times a year. But I want to change that. I am already planning the next event.”

BaselWorld 2010: Chopard New L.U.C Louis Ulysse

March 6th, 2010 by Kevin No comments »

nEO_IMG_Chopard_LUC_Ulysse_1.jpg

Yesterday, I reviewed the Chopard L.U.C Engine One Tourbillon watch. It is extreme exceptional. And today I will introduce another new watch to be released by the famous watchmaker Chopard – the new L.U.C Louis Ulysse. Also created to mark the company’s 150th anniversary, this classic designed watch will be unveiled in a limited edition of 150 pieces.

nEO_IMG_Chopard_LUC_Ulysse_2.jpg

From the name, we can know that this watch is certainly developed from the original L.U.C Louis Ulysse model, a landmark timepiece with a ingenious system based on “adjustable lugs”. The new watch has been equipped with great updates in the machanism, while preserving the original external design. With one swift move, the watch can be transformed from pocket watch to wristwatch. It is awesome, I know. Inspired by Karl Scheufele I who has patented special lugs designed to fasten a pocket-watch and transform it into a wristwatch, the new Chopard watch adopts an extremely reliable cradle system that considerably facilitates handling. Inside it is the case that can be firmly clasped between the adjustable lugs by a simple quarter-turn of the cradle base.

nEO_IMG_Chopard_LUC_Ulysse_3.jpg

The carefully polished and satin-brushed case is crafted in 18K white gold, measuring 49.5 * 14.5mm. The dial is protected by a sapphire crystal with double AR coating. Inside the watch is the new L.U.C EHG Pocket Watch movement. This brand new movement is especially developed by Chopard for the Geneva Watchmaking School, as a example to stimulate the students to create their “school piece” which will mark the culmination of their studies and representing a major landmark in any watchmaking career. With this proprietary movement, the company also pays homage to the city of Geneva that has welcomed Chopard since 1937.

nEO_IMG_Chopard_LUC_Ulysse_4.jpg

Embellished with 20 jewels, this remarkable movement is COSC-certified as a chronometer and is stamped with the Geneval Seal quality hallmark. This mechnaical hand-wound movement beats at a cadence of 21,600 vph, and offers an 80-hour power reserve.

BaselWorld 2010: Chopard L.U.C Engine One Tourbillon

March 5th, 2010 by Kevin 1 comment »

nEO_IMG_Chopard_LUC_EngineOneTourbillon_1.jpg

At the BaselWorld 2010, Chopard will present the new addition to its iconic L.U.C collection, the L.U.C Engine One Tourbillon watch. To celebrate the brand’s 150th anniversary, this watch will been released in a limited series of 150.

Just beginning from its shape, the watch’s first impression on me is like an engine block and mounted on silent blocks. It seems that this exceptional model makes a deliberate departure from the traditional principles of horological design, as it houses an exceptional movement completely conceived and manufactured by Chopard. Inspired by a car engine, the brand’s prestigious shaped hand-wound movement – L.U.C 1TRM caliber – fitted on shock-absorbing silent blocks, sports this new Chopard watch.

nEO_IMG_Chopard_LUC_EngineOneTourbillon_2.jpg

At a thickness of just 5.6mm, the mechanical movement is quite a feat considering its shaped form. In the mechanism, the brand’s exclusive “Variner” adjustment masses consists in three major parts: the escapement with its freely sprung balance, a hairspring featuring a Breguet terminal curve, and a tourbillon cage performing one revolution every 60 seconds. The movement provides a power reserve of 60 hours and beats at the frequency of 28,880 vph. In addition, the L.U.C 1TRM bears the COSC-chronometer certification. The watch case back reveals a sapphire exhibition window that allows to appreciate the beautiful finishing of the movement.

Back to the external design, the L.U.C Engine One Tourbillon watch features a unusually designed titanium case measuring 35.4*44.4mm, a nice combination of brushed and polished surfaces. To highlight the car-inspired theme, the case is completed with brushed flanks and distinctively curved lugs. There is a big winding crown placed between protective guards, offering most comfortable way to wind or set the timepiece. The water-resistance is 50 meters.

nEO_IMG_Chopard_LUC_EngineOneTourbillon_3.jpg

To create a one-of-kind three-dimensional effect and assure maximum legibility, the dial is shielded by a shaped sapphire crystal engraved with hour markers and indices. Divided into a satin area in the center and vertically striated outer areas, the dial underscores a unique skeletonized bridge for the tourbillon carriage, coupled with the power reserve indicator. Moreover, the subdial of the power reserve display is finished with an evocative automobile gas-gauge design.

This new Chopard model comes with a hand-sewn crocodile leather strap, fitted with a titanium buckle with the brand’s logo. This watch is really a exception in those presentable Chopard watches.

Giants Handshake: Hublot Big Bang Maradona

March 4th, 2010 by Kevin No comments »

Diego Maradona, the player of the 20th century, has partnered the famous watchmaker Hublot as its newest ambassador. I don’t think I have the need to introduce Maradona, one of the greatest athletes in the 20th century, and now the coach of the Argentina’s national team. However, recently he was spotted wearing two Rolex watches on both wrists. So I think their partnership is just beginning.

nEO_IMG_maradona.jpg

After a meeting in February, the two big figures in each own field has reached a mutual understanding, and started the collaboration several days after that. To mark this encouraging partnership, the brand has immediately created a watch exclusively for Maradona. It is the remarkable Hublot Big Bang Maradona timepiece.

nEO_IMG_hublot-big-bang-maradona-1.jpg

The Maradona watch features a 44.5mm black ceramic case with fine micro-blasted finish. The iconic round ceramic bezel highlights six signature H-shaped titanium screws. To ensure high scratch resistance and perfect matching to the design, the crown and chronograph push buttons are rendered in black-PVD coated steel with rubber inserts. To continue the brand’s tradition, lateral inserts are featured in black composite resin as well. At the black ceramic case back lies the exciting scene that Maradona raised his arms to celebrate victory, protected by a see-through sapphire crystal.

nEO_IMG_hublot-big-bang-maradona-2.jpg

Shielded by a sapphire crystal with internal AR coating, the black dial employs the Argentina blue and luminescent white on the hands and hour markers, resembling the national flag of the ambassador’s country. At 3 o’clock is the small seconds counter especially designed to present the number 10, the shirt number of Maradora. The watch is certainly not completed without Maradona’s signature, just beside the date aperture at 6 o’clock.

Inside the watch is an automatic HUB1146 calibre embellished with 55 jewels. It also offers a 42-hour power reserve. The watch comes with a alligator or rubber strap with a black PVD-coated steel deployment clasp.

JeanRichard New Aquascope Takes You Back Into The 1960s

March 3rd, 2010 by Kevin No comments »

The new Aquascope watch released by JeanRichard enables you to go back into the 1960s, when the desire for bold personal expression drove art, fashion and design into new frontiers. With round dial and curvaceous tonneau case, the JeanRichard Aquascope model integrates new technology with the essence of 1960s design. To express the trend of that decade of mini skirts and bell bottoms, the modern Aquascope also employs the original’s monoblock case to protect dual crowns.

nEO_IMG_JeanRichard.jpg

Specially produced in-house, the Aquascope has a stainless steel case measuring 40mm*44.5mm. The polished and satin-finished case features an external bidirectional rotating black bezel, in the design of the 1960s original as well. Moreover, the bezel serves second-duty to indicate a remaining dive time. It is conceived with notch finish to ensure accurate setting. There is a safety system designed by JeanRichard to prevent ill-timed movements from an unexpected impact. The bezel will be locked, when the crown at 9 o’clock is screwed in. The hour and minute hands, as well as the date setting, are sported with the screw-down crown at 3 o’clock. The Arabic numerals and indexes treated with luminescent graduation allows for the necessary information to be read accurately in the dark and in deep waters.

Beating inside the watch is the JeanRichard’s in-house caliber JR1000 movement, embellished with 27 jewels. It offers a 48-hour power reserve. The water-resistance is up to 300 meters.

There are several variations available for the new Aquascope timepiece: black polished or deep blue dial with black or white structured calfskin strap. The folding buckle is in polished stainless steel. Retail is SFr. 6900.

nEO_IMG_Romain Gauthier.jpg

Romain Gauthier has recently released its new Calibre 2206 Hms watch. Assembled and embellished by hand, this watch was developed from A to Z in the company’s workshop in the Joux Valley, as a best expression of the spirit of respect for the best traditions of Swiss horology with its impeccable finishing.

Sporting the watch is a manually-wound 2206 Hms calibre, produced completely in-house. BaselWorld 2010: Clerc Odyssey Lady Skeleton

February 26th, 2010 by Kevin No comments »

odyssey-lady-skeleton-clerc-watch_2_nEO_IMG.jpg

The Swiss watchmaker Clerc is well known for their futuristic designs and chunky cases. At BaselWorld 2010, Clerc will present the Odyssey Lady Skeleton watch, a innovative milestone for the brand.

As a perfect combination of futuristic aesthetics and case construction, this horological masterpiece is sure to be a precious object for ladies in search for an extraordinary timekeeper. The Odyssey Lady Skeleton is no exception, ultra-modern and extremely feminine.

The new watch unites the essential functions of hours, minutes and seconds. Inside is the self-winding skeleton Clerc 604 calibre movement to sport all these functions. Embellished with 21 jewels, the movement reveals a balance wheel moving back and forth at the frequency of 28,800 vph. It also offers a power reserve of 42 hours.

odyssey-lady-skeleton-clerc-watch_1_nEO_IMG.jpg

Personally, the watch could have been made more feminine. The 37mm size may be quite large for a woman’s wrist. The 1.344 cts of Top Wesselton VVS diamonds are extremely bling, but a little more than lady-like. The case is a combination of 18k red gold and black titanium, and the skeleton dial serves to afford the wearer a look at the finely decorated movement. The hour markers and numerals are also adorned with TW-VVS diamonds, totaling to 0.12 carats.

Joining the remarkable watch to wearers’ wrists is a satin or black alligator leather strap. The watch seems depending too much on the precious stones and Skeleton construction, but in general, it is an attractive, feminine ladies watch.

Raymond Weil Nabucco Va Pensiero Chronograph, a Watch to Stand Out at BaselWorld 2010

February 25th, 2010 by Kevin No comments »

Raymond-weil-baselworld-2010_nEO_IMG.jpg

At BaselWorld 2010, Raymond Weil will present the new Nabucco Va Pensiero Chronograph watch, the newest member of the stylishly-designed and highly-functional Nabucco collection. Sculptured in sandblasted titanium, the timepiece has received its name after the famous “Va, pensiero, sull’ali dorate” chorus from Verdi’s opera “Nabucco”.

Featuring the elegantly powerful architecture, as well as sophisticated materials and timekeeping precision, Raymond Weil Nabucco Va Pensiero Chronograph is sure to be one of the highlights at the great event. The new timepiece is created as a emblem of freedom and independence.

NABUCCO_VA_PENSIERO-Watch-1.jpg

Shielded by highly scratch-resistant synthetic sapphire crystal, the model incorporates a handsome case measuring 46mm, outfitted with a tachymeter-scale bezel that allows to calculate speeds. On the side of the case is a fluted screwed-down winding crown reliably protected by massive shoulders, screwed-down chronograph pushers and the date corrector. The screwed case back reveals a RW monogram. The water resistance goes to 200 meters.

Most striking in the watch is structural and textural peculiarities of the dial. In a textured pale grey background, the dial highlights a reaised central section in dark grey secured by three screws and completed with the small seconds sub-dial and chronograph 12-hour and 30-minute sub-dials. A round aperture between 4 and 5 o’clock tells the date. And all the hour indexes are shown in luminescent anthracite.

NABUCCO-VA-PENSIERO-Watch-2_nEO_IMG.jpg

The movement for the new watch is a reliable ETA 7753 self-winding movement with a frequency of 28,800 vph. It provides a 50-hour power reserve, and sports continuous small seconds, elapsed hour and minute counters, as well as an easy-to-correct simple calendar function. Euipped with a centrally-positioned winding rotor personalized with Raymond Weil signature, the movement also accentuates bridges decorated with circular graining decorations.

Raymond Weil Nabucco Va Pensiero Chronograph comes with a saddle-stitched crocodile leather strap, fitted with a titanium folding clasp provided with double security release elements. In a word, I would imagine this watch is sure to stand out at BaselWorld 2010.

Jaeger-LeCoultre AMVOX2 Transponder Rapide and Aston Martin Rapide

February 24th, 2010 by Kevin No comments »

aston_2_nEO_IMG.jpg

I like cars, and my dream cars has almost covered all the well-known brands. In general, the Aston Martin Rapide is my favorite. Now the prestigious watchmaker Jaeger-LeCoultre has collaborated with Aston Martin to offer a stylish solution for Rapide drivers who have been always in need of looking for car keys. With the extreme contemporary AMVOX2 Transponder Rapide, you have no need to fumble around for the lugging chunky and unattractive key fobs any more, as well as to buy a second luxury watch.

aston_1_nEO_IMG.jpg

This high-tech timepiece is able to do double-duty as a car key. It enables you to unlock the car by simply touching between the 8 and 9, or touch between the 3 and 4 to lock. And by touching them both simultaneously, the “find me” function can be activated to make the headlamps light up for easy spotting.

aston_3_nEO_IMG.jpg

In order to fit it into and around the workings of the watch without sacrificing style, the designers and engineers cost over 18 months to miniaturize the car’s transponder key. The watch and the car are perfect match. Anyway, you need £21,850 (or about $33,800) to solve the key-finding problem.
