Classic Reappear – Glashütte Original Pocket Watch No. 1

October 31st, 2009

nEO_IMG_Pocket10311.jpg

Pocket watch belongs to the past, and wrist watch falls into the present and the future. This is a accurate description for the current situation. Wearing an awesome wrist watch to show leading fashion and personal style, you may get a vintage pocket watch as a family heirloom, from your grandfather, who received this family heirloom from his own father or grandfather…

To me, the question is how to carry it (just in my pocket?) or when am I ever going to use such a watch? Perhaps, if it can product sound for hours or the past time, I think, I will put it in a delicate glass container and use it as a clock in my living room.

nEO_IMG_Pocket10312.jpg

However, there may be a market for them. To prove it, Glashütte Original has recently introduced their Pocket Watch No. 1, a limitied edition of only 25 pieces worldwide. You heard right. This timelessly elegant pocket watch by Glashütte Original, with quarter-hour repetition, just comes in 25 pieces – super-limited.

nEO_IMG_Pocket10313.jpg

This new watch features a quarter-hour repetition that will tell you time by first letting you hear the number of hours that passed, and additionally (in another tone) the quarters since that last hour. For example, if it dings 6 times and dings another 3 times ( in a different tone), it is a quarter to seven in the morning. You can simply use the slide located on the lower side of the case as a controlswitch to the repetition complication. What impressives me the most is the large movement easy to access. From the picture above, we may be amazed at the elaborate technics for the movenment, especially the engraving on the balance cock.

nEO_IMG_Pocket10314.jpg

In my memory, the most impressive pocket watch is the famous Patek Philippe Calibre 89, which is the most complicated and highly coveted timepiece in the world with a total of 33 complications. Only four unique models of the Calibre 89 were ever produced; one each in yellow, pink and white gold and one in platinum. Wolrd’s top identity comes along with a fabulous price at $4,420,000 to $5,400,000, and the famous Patek Philippe Calibre 89 will highlights the Antiquorum’s 35th Anniversary Sale in November.

Well, even compared to the unreachable Patek Philippe Calibre 89, to own a Glashütte Original Pocket Watch No. 1 is also not simple. Only 25 pieces available, Glashütte Original Pocket Watch No. 1 needs not only a great expense of money, but also a lightning speed.

New Perrelet Split-Seconds Chronograph

October 30th, 2009

perrlet4.jpg

As for Perrelet, maybe most people will delight in talking about the hyped Perrelet Turbine. Of course, no one can deny that the Turbine has a lofty status in classic Perrelet collection. However, the most impressive timepiece, to me, is Perrelet Split-Seconds Chronograph collection, for its perfect marrage of complication and aestheticism.

P3.jpg

In homage to Louis-Frédéric Perrelet for his exceptional split-seconds counter, which he patented in 1828, this split-seconds chronograph (“rattrapante”) collection represents the innovation and openness of the brand. Apart from the extraordinary complexity and decoration of his movement, watchmaking enthusiasts will appreciate the elegance of the finish on the glass discs, which have taken the place of additional hands. The result of a perfect harmony between tradition and modernity.

P1.jpg

And now, as a new member of the Split-Seconds Chronograph collection, the black Semi-Skeletonized Split-Seconds Chronograph is coming! The new edition consists of four versions (shown in the first photo) : black/stainless (A1043/1) , all black/blue numerals (A1045/1), all black/gold numerals (A1045/3) and black/gold (A3025/1). These fresh additions are of great appeal for everyboby that, no matter who you are : novices, amateurs, or connoisseurs , they are the best satisfaction of your wants in modern, mysterious and elegant models. The movement is Calibre P-241, featuring its fly-back hand, concentic hours and minutes, seconds and date on discs, and sweep seconds with hours and minutes display on discs.

P2.jpg

Well, the special openwork feature, of course, forms the most notable representive representative of the Semi-Skeletonized Split-Seconds Chronograph. It brings us a precious chance to appreciate its sophisticated semi-skeletonised mechanical movement. Best with blue screws, the rhodium- plated gears adds a sensation of technology and delicacy to the new model. All new versions of Perrelet Split-Seconds Chronograph come in natural black rubber bracelets, embossed with the “Perrelet” logo and embellished with a deployment buckle.

You can see the detail specifications in the following pictures.

Bling, Bling, Casio Gemmy Baby-G.

October 28th, 2009

A new shiny Baby-G watch, with a “bling” factor to make a fresh sweet sparkler, has recently been introduced by Casio. This new eye-catching addition to the Baby-G collection will been unveiled in two versions: one in black with pink rhinestone accents (BG1300MB-1) and the other in white with a pink face and clear rhinestones (BG3000M-7). The former will come in November, followed by the latter one in December.

BG3000M-7.jpg

The Gemmy Baby-G features its chaton-style bezel protectors with a clear face surrounded by rhinestones. As a nice comlement to a simplistic style, the new Casio model will certainly add sparkle and boost class to the wearers. Perhaps, this shiny or bling fact is not suitable for those busy bussinessmen. However, it is truly the cup of tea for the lifeful fashionista, for the flirty, feisty and fashionable Gemmy Baby-G best represents their dreaming lifestyle.

BG1300MB-1.jpg

The daring design of rhinestone accent adds spice to the classic series, and just as Shigenori Itoh (Vice President of Casio’s Timepiece Division) said, the Baby-G Gemmy is a versatile watch that can be outfitted for a busy day at the office or a night out with friends. Apart from the color, the main difference in the two versions of Casio Gemmy Baby-G is the water resisitance. The BG3000M-7 features a high degree of water resistance to 200 meters, while the BG1300MB-1 is water-resistant up to 100 meters. For the identity of digital watches, their function in water resistance does much better than normal automatic watches. Besides, the BG3000M-7 has four daily alarms plus one SNZ, compared to five daily alarms owning by the BG1300MB-1.

Altogether, the Gemmy Baby-G represents a perfect integration of leading fashion and practicability, and there’s no doubt that this shiny stuff will be warmly pursued by the cool and confident fashionista.

New Corum Golden Bridge Limited Edition

October 26th, 2009

Corum Golden Bridge, a prominent series in high end watches with daring design, has recently got a fresh member, a limited edition of 138 pieces in black titannium case.

GB2.jpg

Golden Bridge Black Titanium

Just looking at the design, the full black theme is cold yet awesome. In the black PVD case treated titanium, the gold bridge – in-house CO113 hand wound movement, seems like slicing across the full black river, a deep night color dial. The hands, bezel and made to measure crocodile straps, all in black, correspond to the bold in-house design. And the gold running gears, which constantly delivey power for the watch, demonstrate this noble watch’s identity.

GB1.jpg

Golden Bridge Full Pave

Golden Bridge Black Titanium, a new magnum opus in Corum luxury watches, explains the integration of daring design and noble disposition very well. Full black theme, 32×50.5mm black titannium case without a seconds hand, high-class movement and deluxe crocodile straps constitute this new stunner with a ” Golden Bridge” tag. Maybe this new model has no difference with other luxury Golden Bridges but in colour. And it is the full cold color that makes the Golden Bridge Black Titanium a fascinating complement to the magnificent series.

GB3.jpg

Golden Bridge Haute Joaillerie Sapphires

The daring design brings the audience visual shock, as well as a great deduction in water resistance. So don’t cherish illusions that you can wear this luxury stuff when swimming, or even diving… Apart from this, the Golden Bridge Black Titanium is truly a collector’s treasure.

Big Bang Wally, new member of the impressive Hublot’s Big Bang series, is to be released as a limited edition of 500 pieces during the last regattas of the season, which is taking place in the Golfe de Saint-Tropez. Hublot began its partnership, four years ago, with Wally, the leading yacht manufacturer based in Monaco. In honour of the rewarding friendship between this two prominent figures in manufacturering industry- one in watchmaking and the other in yachtmaking, the Big Bang Wally is unveiled as a perfect integration between the two companies’ innovative technology.

One is Enough, Patek Philippe Nautilus

October 24th, 2009

Patek5711.jpg nEO_IMG_Patek57121.jpg

Patek Philippe Nautilus series covers different kinds of magnificent watches, of which the ref.5711/1A and 5712/1A are the most representative. “You merely look after it for the next generation”, in most Patek Philippe enthusiasts’ mind, Patek Philippe Nautilus equates to family heirloom, which could be passed on to the next generation when time has come. The lofty status may form the best reason for Patek Philippe watches’s high price, which seems unreasonable, and at which you can buy five or six other Swiss quality watches.

nEO_IMG_patek57122.jpg

While perhaps most people would fall in love with the Patek Philippe Nautilus (ref.5711/1A) for it pure simplicity – stainless steel case and most basic dial with hours, minutes and date only, I got deep into the love with the 5712/1A, maybe for its moon phase, date and power reserve indicator, which represents a sensation of sophistication and turns itself into a long-waited luxury watch. From this, I judge myself as a non-purist for the reason that all the purists will love the 5711/1A much more.

At a “pure” perspective, the configuration of the dial in the 5712/1A is a little crowded and its readability can certainly not be in the same class with the 5711/1A. But we can imagine far more much money spent on the pure model and another Patek Philippe with complications applied to the 5712/1A.The self-winding caliber 240PS IRM C LU with a 22 carat gold micro rotor, makes the movement for the 5712/1A. The application of 22 carat gold particularly increase the stability and reliability to support the movement. Other features includes water-resistance to 60m and perfect scratch resisitance as a result from the carefully polished and brushed case and bracelet.

The impressive 5712/1A makes a watch worth making exceptions for, though at the price of 19999 EURO.

On the big main dial, sensation of science and technology comes along with the linear hand located at nine o’clock, indicating the chronograph minutes singularly and the retrograde hand at four o’clock tracking the hours of the chronograph, thanks to a quartz analog, 4 motor, 6 hand movement.
TX5.jpg

New Model-Seiko Premier Kinetic Rose Gold Chronograph

Recently, the Premier Kinetic Chronograph, a new luxury look watch, was unveiled by the Seiko watchmanufacturer. The new model, wrapped in the 42mm stainless steel case, with a noble Rose Gold PVD coated finish, features a sparkly sapphire crystal. SNL044premie.jpg

The 7L22 Kinetic Chronograph calibre, with 1/5th-second timing capabilities and up to 12 hours elapsed time, makes the movement for the Premier Kinetic Chronograph. The proprietary “Kinetic” technology by Seiko results in loss friction and less loss of energy in motions in intrinsic procedure, compared to conventional ones. The Kinetic series is not composed by a set of traditional automatic watches. The key of the truth that it works without the need for a battery, which makes it seem like a traditional automatic watch, lies in the application of a quartz crystal oscillator. The integration of the rotor, which can generate power, with the quartz crystal oscillator, creates a “automatic” Kinetic Chronograph.

Jaeger-LeCoultre in Conquering a Virgin Himalayan peak

October 18th, 2009

J1.jpg

Currently, a team of three experienced alpinists, headed by the Swiss guide Stéphane Schaffter, is undertaking a extreme expedition: conquering a mountain in the Himalayas that has never yet been stepped foot on by human beings.

J2.jpg

This arduous challenge is not only for the three tough-minded mountaineers, but for three timepieces of excellent quality made by Jaeger-LeCoultre. The famous 1958 Geophysic Chronometer, the Master Compressor Extreme LAB and a new extreme creation developed in the Manufacture workshops accompanies the seasoned climbing party.

J3.jpg

Compared to the famous expeditions undertaken in the mid-20th century with the aim of conquering the world’s greatest peaks one after the other, in the present time, conquering a virgin summit is still a arduous task requiring much effort. A group of experienced mountaineers who are well equipped, well acquainted with the grandeur, beauty and unpredictable nature of the mountains, makes the essential element to achieve such an awesome exploration.

Stéphane Schaffter , the head of the team, a Swiss mountaineer who has a good knowledge of the famous mountains, will be accompanied by Little Karim, an alpinist with decades of experience, who has accompanied many great sportsmen in their over 8,000-metre high-altitude expeditions, as well as Apa Sherpa, who has a successful climing career with 19 glorious ascensions of Everest. This united group shows us the unyielding spirit of adventure and displays a striking confidence that they will breakthrough the so-called “Limits”. It seems that those forbidden areas are there to be stepped on. And the Jaeger-LeCoultre watches are chosen as good companions for their unshakeable resistance and reliability in the most hostile environments.

J4.jpg

The Manufacture Jaeger-LeCoultre has constantly pushed back the limits of precision and kept pace with daring technical accomplishments. This praiseworthy spirit of limit-breaking, fitting well with this daring expedition, will make ongoing legend in the industry.
