Patek Philippe Nautilus series covers different kinds of magnificent watches, of which the ref.5711/1A and 5712/1A are the most representative. “You merely look after it for the next generation”, in most Patek Philippe enthusiasts’ mind, Patek Philippe Nautilus equates to family heirloom, which could be passed on to the next generation when time has come. The lofty status may form the best reason for Patek Philippe watches’s high price, which seems unreasonable, and at which you can buy five or six other Swiss quality watches.

While perhaps most people would fall in love with the Patek Philippe Nautilus (ref.5711/1A) for it pure simplicity – stainless steel case and most basic dial with hours, minutes and date only, I got deep into the love with the 5712/1A, maybe for its moon phase, date and power reserve indicator, which represents a sensation of sophistication and turns itself into a long-waited luxury watch. From this, I judge myself as a non-purist for the reason that all the purists will love the 5711/1A much more.

At a “pure” perspective, the configuration of the dial in the 5712/1A is a little crowded and its readability can certainly not be in the same class with the 5711/1A. But we can imagine far more much money spent on the pure model and another Patek Philippe with complications applied to the 5712/1A.The self-winding caliber 240PS IRM C LU with a 22 carat gold micro rotor, makes the movement for the 5712/1A. The application of 22 carat gold particularly increase the stability and reliability to support the movement. Other features includes water-resistance to 60m and perfect scratch resisitance as a result from the carefully polished and brushed case and bracelet.

The impressive 5712/1A makes a watch worth making exceptions for, though at the price of 19999 EURO.
